He's done it before; taken perennial underacheivers and turned them into champions. In his short first class coaching careeer he achieved what most won't, nay can't, acheive in a life time. But most importantly what he did was replace the lost pride in Springbok rugby which had gone missing in the professional era. The man i am of course talking about and the perfect man for the Golden Lions challenge is Jake White.
It's easy, i say with tongue in cheek, to take some of the most talented players in the universe and make them winners again, but one achivement that to a true rugby follower would mean so much more than any trophy is getting the Lions back to their former glory (or even getting everyone to stop laughing at them). Heyneke Meyer built an empire at the Bulls (who had a terrible record in the 90s and early 00's in the Super 12) and now it is time for White to stop making money and start making his mark again.
He may be a good teacher and so his venture into coaching the coaches will no doubt be successful, but you can only waste so much talent for so long. White's greatest strengths were his "no compramise" attitude and his man management and it seems that's exactly what the pussy cats from Jo'Burg (the biggest City in South Africa) need. sgr
